County Council Single Status - No strike clause?

Members whose grade will rise above 14 under singe status have been written to by the county council saying their new contract includes a no strike clause, despite no mention of this being made when the variation to contract letters were issued.

Several members have complained about this infringement of their right to withdraw their labour should they feel it necessary.

Therefore, the branch secretary, Vicki Lang, has written to Toni Compai, the Director of Human Resources with the following

1)      Please let us have a specimen copy of the contract of employment which includes this ‘condition of service’.

2)      Please forward us a copy of any agreement between the county council and the unions that covered the introduction of this clause.

3)      Please explain why this variation to a contract of employment was not included in the original ‘variation letter’ sent out about Single Status.

4)      Please explain why those staff who will have something incorporated ‘into your contract of employment’ haven’t had prior notice of this and, indeed, less than 2 weeks in which to take advice.

As soon as we receive a response, we will advise members and decide upon our next steps.
