UNISON - Derbyshire County - the public service union

Derbyshire County Unison News : 10 May 2010

Volcanoes, ash, travel & leave

Several members have been in contact with the branch office over the past few weeks with problems with their leave after being caught abroad in the fallout from the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull. Derbyshire County Council issued an early ‘policy’ on the matter which was acknowledged by the trade unions. This stated:-

“... It was agreed that employees are able to record 50% of their absence as special leave up to the 5 days permitted in the new scheme.

The remainder of an employee’s absence can be made up from:-

Annual leave

Unpaid leave

Flexi leave

Working additional hours for those employees who do not have access to the Flexi time scheme.”

Should any member within the council (or schools obviously) have difficulty securing the arrangements highlighted above, then please contact the branch office.

If you work for another organisation and are unhappy with their response to the issue, please contact us.
