Equal pay in Derbyshire County Council
UNISON is pursuing equal pay claims for some Derbyshire County branch members and as part of the process has recently submitted a grievance to Derbyshire County Council on behalf of some workers in jobs such as:-
· Home Help
· Kitchen Assistant
· Domestic
· Care Assistant (Day and Night)
· Community Care Worker
· Community Support worker
· Deputy Unit Manager
· Assistant Cook / Cook / Cook-in-Charge / Cook Supervisor
· Passenger Assistant
These members are employed doing work traditionally undertaken by women and/or where the workforce is predominantly female. Their jobs have now been evaluated [under the Hay job evaluation scheme] and the scores confirm they do work rated as equivalent to ‘comparators’ we have quoted. For instance a comparator may be a mechanic, a technician or a chauffeur – work traditionally undertaken by men and/or where the workforce is predominantly male.
Our members have not previously had the benefit of terms to which the comparators were entitled, nor have they been provided access to pay protection payments which the comparators have. Further UNISON also believes our members are entitled to the buy-out that some comparators received for their bonus schemes.
Equal pay claims do take some time to research, submit and get sorted so we have to ask members to be patient. But we are sure that the submission of this claim to secure equal pay for members will demonstrate another benefit of UNISON membership to workers in Derbyshire.
