Problems with SAP?

As members will be aware the new SAP financial system was introduced in April this year for those colleagues affected by Single Status and later for those in schools. Unfortunately the changeover has not been as smooth as the County Council would have you believe, and many members are still not being paid correctly four months after the introduction of this system!

Retired members have also fallen foul of SAP – some have had massive increases in their tax on pensions; some have had financial difficulty because the county council decided to pay separate pensions into one account even if this had not been the case previously.

Many of our members are single parent families or are the only breadwinner and yet vulnerable employees have often not been paid correctly. The county has then offered an “interim” payment which they are recovering from their next pay as an overpayment. Unison’s advice is that they are wrong to recover this money as it is the actual wages you are due to and not an overpayment. If you have been underpaid you should ask for an emergency payment and not an interim payment and write to confirm this and include a note to tell them not to recover this money.

Unison has taken this serious issue to the Elected Members at the Corporate Joint Committee so as to make our employers aware of the true situation.

If you are still not being paid correctly as set out above or have other problems because of SAP, please contact Mick Wilson who is the branch’s lead negotiator on this matter. He can be contacted by emailing him with full information on mick.wilson@unisondc.co.uk
