Outrage at pay freeze
The employers have told members they face a pay freeze this year, despite nearly 3% inflation. The pay freeze is a real terms pay cut.
UNISON national Head of Local Government, Heather Wakefield, said:
"The employer's decision to cut our members' pay without negotiation is a slap in the face for hard working council employees who have kept local communities together through the crisis.”
Derbyshire County UNISON branch secretary, Vicki Lang, said “I am disappointed the employers have decided to give our members what amounts to a pay cut. With the cost of living increases we are all subject to it is a scandal the employers are treating us in this way. It is unacceptable.
Our members are at the sharp end delivering vital services to our communities; more and more demands are being put on us particularly in the present economic climate. The employers should recognise that the biggest assets they have are the dedicated staff out at the front line day in and day out.”
